On The Inimitability And Authenticity Of The Qur'an

Inimitability and Authenticity Of the Qur’an Indeed the Day of Judgement is a promised day when Allah, the Almighty, the Just and Wise will take mankind to task for what they uttered concerning Him, His Prophets and His revelation. He knows all that is secret and hidden, and is fully aware of those who gather to plot against the Truth. And verily they plot and plan, and Allah is the best of planners, and the plans of the disbelievers will come to naught, and for sure Allah will gather the criminals all together in hell. What an evil end. There are several points I wish to raise and clarify. First I would like to reassure all the Muslim readers and inform the Christian readers that the claims of Joseph Smith that: “On this side of the Atlantic the Muslims are trying to attack me concerning the Dome of the Rock, the Qibla, and the problem between the Kufic and Ma’il scripts. So far I have stood my ground at Speaker’s Corner, and at the university, and I still wait for a credible defence”...

Leadership Lessons From The Quran

Do you remember ever being ridiculed at school or elsewhere during your childhood? Whether the reason for it was your dress, style of talking, or lack of expertise in a certain field or at a particular skill, ridicule by others never feels good. In fact, it feels absolutely awful. The thing about being young is, and this I speak from experience, that one tends to take the mockery, criticism and derision of rivals, envious peers, and openly hostile antagonists (whom the modern literati terms “haters”) too quickly to heart, thinking their harsh words about you to be true. It is at this point, viz. when a child or young adult has their appearance, dreams, efforts, hard work, or abilities mocked and jeered at by others, that the role of the compassionate and sympathetic older mentor, leader, teacher, trainer or parent comes in, to play a crucial ‘rescue’ part: revitalizing the dejected youth’s plunging self-esteem and saving them from giving up on their dreams. It is when any youngster is ...

Memorizing The Qur’an

Bismillaahir-Rahmaanir-Raheem My Brother and Sister Muslim – there is no doubt that you know of excellence of memorizing the Quran and the excellence of teaching it. The Messenger of Allah  said: “The best amongst you is the one who learns the Qur’an and teaches it.” [Reported by Bukhaaree] Presented to you are some rules which will assist in memorizing the Qur’an, May Allah benefit us by them. 1. Ikhlaas – (Sincerity) The purification of one’s intention and correcting ones desire is obligatory. It is likewise for making ones concern with and memorization of the Quran for the sake of Allah, the Sublime, and Exalted, and for gaining success with His Paradise and obtaining His pleasure. Also for obtaining those mighty rewards which are reserved for those who recited the Quran and memorized it. Allah the Exalted said: So worship Allah, making the Deen sincerely for Him. Is it not to Allah that sincere worship is due? [Zumar 39:2-3] He also said: Say: I have been commanded that I worsh...

Brief History Of The Compilation Of Quran

During the life of the Prophet  (PBUH) (570-632 CE) •  The Prophet  used to recite the Qur’an before angel Jibreel (Gabriel) once every Ramadan, but he recited it twice (in the same order we have today) in the last Ramadan before his death. Jibreel also taught the Prophet  the seven modes of recitation. •  Each verse received was recited by the Prophet, and its location relative to other verses and surahs was identified by him. • The verses were written by scribes, selected by the Prophet, on any suitable object – the leaves of trees, pieces of wood, parchment or leather, flat stones, and shoulder blades. Scribes included Ali Ibn Abi Talib, Mu’awiyah Ibn Abi Sufyan, Ubey Ibn Ka’ab, Zayed Ibn Thabit. •  Some of the companions wrote the Qur’an for their own use. •  Several hundred companions memorized the Qur’an by heart. During the caliphate of Abu Bakr (632-634 CE) •  Umar Ibn Al-Khattab urged Abu Bakr to preserve and compile the Qur’an. This was ...

Eat Suhoor, for suhoor there is a blessing

It was narrated that Anas ibn Maalik (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Eat suhoor, for in suhoor there is blessing.” Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 1923; Muslim, 1095.  This hadeeth indicates that the fasting person is commanded to eat suhoor because there is a great deal of goodness and blessing, both spiritual and worldly, in it. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) mentioned the blessing so as to encourage us to eat suhoor.  It was narrated from Jaabir that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever wants to fast, let him eat something for suhoor.” Narrated by Ahmad, 14533; classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in  al-Silsilah al-Saheehah , 2309. The command here is in the sense of it being mustahabb, not obligatory, based on the fact that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) and his companions observed continual fasts, i.e.,...
